At the end of 2019, Vietnam Local Artist Group held a periodic contest named "VLAG #5: Drawing the Mouse". The main topic of the contest is the spirit animal of 2020 Lunar New Year.

In the Vietnamese zodiac, 2020 was the year of "Canh Tý"—where "Canh" translates to "soup" and "Tý" to "mouse." Inspired by this playful coincidence, I created an illustration featuring an elder mouse lounging in a tofu soup hot tub and a baby mouse perched on a bowl of white rice. The tofu soup, while not symbolic, was one of my favorite comfort foods and served as a cozy, lighthearted setting for the grandfather mouse. The bowl of rice, on the other hand, carried deeper meaning—white rice is a staple in Vietnamese cuisine and culture, and a full bowl represents abundance, warmth, and a fulfilling life, especially significant as a wish for the New Year. Although my artwork didn’t receive an award, I took great pride in completing it, especially after years of abandoning previous VLAG contest entries. It was a personal milestone that marked both creative growth and discipline.
